How X-Guard Ensures Your Safety, Wherever You Are

At X-Guard, your safety is our mission, and we understand how important it is to provide assistance quickly and accurately, especially in large buildings where every second counts. To ensure that emergency responders find you as quickly as possible, we use three smart techniques to determine where you are. Here we simply explain how these techniques work.

Industrial beacon

1. Battery Powered Beacons

Think of these beacons as lighthouses that help us find your location. They are placed throughout the building and help us determine if you are in their proximity. This way we can send emergency responders to the right environment. Although they give us a good idea of where you are, sometimes they cannot tell you exactly which floor you are on.

2. WiFi Networks With Bluetooth

This method is similar to the first, but uses the WiFi networks in the building that also transmit Bluetooth signals. This helps us determine your position by seeing which network is closest. As with the battery-powered beacons, this method is useful for knowing which part of the building you are in, but it can be challenging to determine exactly which floor.

3. Powered Beacons

These beacons are the superheroes of our location determination technology. Because they are connected directly to the power supply, they are always active and extremely accurate. With this method we can determine not only which floor you are on, but with an accuracy of 92% even which room. This means that in the event of an alarm, we can send emergency responders to the right place with almost complete certainty.

Lifespan and Monitoring
Each X-Guard beacon is equipped with three CR2477 batteries, which have a robust lifespan of up to two years. We ensure that every beacon is continuously monitored. You will receive a detailed report on the status of your beacons every month, so you are always aware of their performance.

Influence of Building Constructions
Despite advanced technology, our beacons are also subject to the laws of physics. Bluetooth signals have difficulty penetrating thick building structures, meaning the effectiveness of location tracking may depend on the type of building. Through a thorough site survey, we can determine the optimal placement and required number of beacons for your specific situation.

Coverage Area

  • Office environments: As standard, our beacons cover an area of 200 to 250 m², which equates to a zone of 14 x 14 meters to 16 x 16 meters.
  • Larger Halls: For larger spaces such as halls, the coverage can be expanded to an impressive 1.600 to 2.500 m², or 40 x 40 meters to 50 x 50 meters.

Specific Placement Advice
In more compact spaces, such as a small office or meeting room within a 10 x 10 meter area, we recommend placing the beacons very close to the user, such as under a desk. This significantly increases the accuracy of the location determination. We also offer the option for location-based alarm buttons via X-Guard Connect for an even more specific safety solution.

Compatibility and Optimization
The X-Guard Alarm app works on the iBeacon protocol, making it compatible with a wide range of beacons that support this protocol. However, for best results and optimal operation, we recommend using X-Guard managed beacons. Your X-Guard advisor is always available for a detailed technical explanation and advice on the best solution for your situation.

Technical information: WiFi points with Bluetooth functionality

At X-Guard we understand the importance of accurate location determination within buildings. That is why we offer the option to integrate existing WiFi points that also transmit Bluetooth signals into our security system. This ensures an extensive and accurate network for location determination within your organization.

What We Need:

  • Unique Identification: For each integration, we collect the UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) of the beacons within your organization. This is essential, especially in large organizations with multiple WiFi points.
  • Location map: A detailed drawing showing all WiFi points within your facility.
  • Major and Minor Values: These specific values per WiFi point help refine the location determination.

Stain plan and optimization: X-Guard creates a location plan on which the position of all WiFi points is drawn. This plan reveals through gray and black spots where coverage is insufficient for accurate location determination. This enables us to proactively advise on the optimal placement of additional beacons.

Testing and Verification: To ensure the precision of our system, we conduct an extensive test round together with a representative of your organization. During this round, we verify the accuracy of the location data at every location within your facility.

Continuous Monitoring: Monthly reports keep you informed of the status and functionality of all beacons. This way we guarantee the continuous reliability of the system and we can make timely adjustments where necessary.

Technical info: Power-powered (Recessed) Beacons

At X-Guard we strive to seamlessly integrate our security solutions into your existing infrastructure. Our powered beacons, also known as recessed beacons, are designed to be placed discreetly behind electrical sockets, with the aim of ensuring an unobtrusive yet effective presence in your space.

Installation requirements:

  • Space Behind Sockets: Before a recessed beacon can be installed, it is necessary to check that there is at least 15 mm of free space behind the sockets.
  • Free Contact: There must be a free contact in the electrical fixture into which the beacon can be placed.
  • Alternative Solutions: If there is insufficient space, we recommend sacrificing a socket by replacing it with a blanking plate, behind which the beacon is installed.

Placement and Coverage:

  • Number of Beacons: Determining the number of beacons required depends on the size of the building and the number of rooms where location determination is required. As a rule of thumb, at least one beacon should be placed per 3 to 4 rooms.
  • Accurate Location Determination: For accurate location determination, it is necessary that the telephone application can receive at least 4 beacons simultaneously.

Installation time:

  • Placement of Beacons: When installing a beacon, a period of 5 to 10 minutes per beacon must be taken into account.
  • Scanning Spaces: After installing the beacons, it is essential to perform a scan in all rooms, which also takes 5 to 10 minutes per room.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monthly report: We keep you informed of the status and activity of the beacons through monthly reports, to ensure that your safety system continues to function optimally.

The integration of our powered beacons provides a robust and reliable solution for location tracking within your facility, without disrupting the aesthetics or functionality of the space. For further technical support or installation information, please contact your X-Guard advisor.
