Battery consumption X-Guard Alarm app

Every app on the smartphone contributes to the battery consumption of your phone. This also applies to the X-Guard Alarm-app. At X-Guard we strive for a good balance between safety and comfort. Your safety should not be hindered by an (almost) empty battery.

Explanation of our different package options

X-Guard offers two different packages: packages ”per person” for which you pay a fixed rate per each person, and packages ”per hour” for which you pay a fixed rate per hour. When you choose a package”per person” you can always send an alarm, even when My security is set to ”Off”. When you choose a package”per hour” you can solely send an alarm if My security is set to ”On”.

X-Guard solely deducts hours from your bundle when My security is set to ”On”. Read more…

Battery consumption

To give you an indication of the battery consumption of the X-Guard Alarm-app, we have described a situation sketch below, with the battery consumption per situation described. In addition, tips are mentioned for minimizing your battery consumption.

1. My Security

My security set to ”Off’: no battery consumption. The Alarm app runs in the background and is “standby” for sending an alarm call.

My security on set to ”On”: normal battery consumption. Your location is perceived and will be sent during an emergency call and your smartphone consumes data. It is useful to let My security be switched automatically. Read more…

My security set to ”Risk”: a lot of battery consumption. When My security is set to ”Risk”, your smartphone will consume a lot of battery. The Alarm-app is continuously monitoring the movement of your smartphone (motion detection – similar to a pedometer). This is an intensive process that consumes a lot of battery power. X-Guard therefore advises to only set My security to ”Risk” in case it is strictly necessary. It is also useful to let the Risk button switch automatically. Read more…

2. On-call for others

Turning your availability to receive incoming emergency calls from others to ”On” or ”Off” does not come at the cost of a package ” per hour” .

On-call for others set to ”Off” : no battery consumption.
On-call for others set to ”On” : low battery consumption.

On-call for others is a (default) setting in the app. However, your company or organization may have determined that this setting is not visible in the app.

3. Automatic mode switch (Intelligent App Mode)

Enable rules – ”Off” : no battery consumption
Enable rules – ”On” : low battery consumption

Tips and tricks

Below you will find some tips for minimizing your battery consumption:

  • The app consumes more battery when My security is set to “On” and when the app is opened on the phone’s screen. When you open the app and keep it open regularly, the battery will be consumed fast.
  • All devices (both Android / iOS) consume less battery when they lie flat on the table. If the device is carried around continuously, this will be at the expense of battery usage.
  • A device that ”makes a lot of kilometers” consumes more battery (for example in the car). Advice: charge your device in the car.
